Moving in August, want to change cars again before I do. Nothing particularly wrong with my car ('07 Mazdaspeed6), I'm just bored with it.
Now, I'll probably end up with a Miata. But that hasn't stopped me from considering just about everything.
Take this, for example. It's a 1988 Suzuki Carry with 37,000KM's. That's right, Kilometers. This fucker was imported from god damn Canada. It's 4WD with a 3 cylinder engine. The steering wheel is on the wrong fucking side! It even has an EL gear! What the shit is that? (A quick google query tells me it's "extra low". That's "extra fucking awesome" in my book!)

But it's not just Japanese Mini-trucks. It's everything. Old Beetles. Miatas. Toyota T100s. Nissan xTerras. Turbobricks. 300es. But there's that one unicorn that's always been my secret fetish. That car that's so outlandish, your friends would never speak with you again.
Oppo, the first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one. I have an unhealthy obsession with late 90's / early 00's Japanese sedans with manual transmissions.
Who wouldn't want to drive around in a '98 Camry with a 4 cylinder and a 5 speed? Park that '01 Accord anywhere you god damn feel like. Pile your friends in that '97 Altima and go on a weekend trip.
I like to think my reasoning is sound, though. These are the cars people buy because they don't have to worry about owning a car. You put gas in it, you occasionally remember to change the oil, and it won't complain for 200,000+ miles. It gets a steady just-under-30 MPG. And you don't have to fucking care about it.
Honestly, I'm tired of having to worry about my daily driver. Constantly wondering if that noise has always been there. Frantically swerving in my lane to see if that vibration gets the slightest bit worse when I've got the wheel pointed left. Agonizing over cross-country trips (which I do fairly regularly to see family / friends) because of the miles I'll be putting on my car, and the depreciation it adds. Having to park in the back 40 because other people open their doors with a Herculean force, trading paint with your car in the process. Constantly judging every other driver on the road, because you know that 20-something-with-a-baby-in-the-back, talking on the phone and playing with the radio is about to randomly decide they need to occupy the same exact lane you're in. Running outside during a storm with "reports of hail" to pull your car into the barn.
...I think something like this might wind up being my next car:

So what do you guys think? Have I gone insane? Does anyone else secretly lust after a beigemobile with the row-it-yourself option checked?

My girlfriend has a 97 Camry with the 3.0 V6, Autotragic, but my god if that thing wasn't a hoot to drive. Torque steer through the corner, pull some j-turns, full throttle runs, it didn't give a shit. It met it's maker not to long ago because there wasn't any oil in the engine, like at all. Her parents didn't think that changing the oil was very necessary.

Could you just imagine it with a 5 speed? I drove a friend's Accord V6 5-speed sedan ('04 I think, that generation at least). It was actually pretty nice.

But its stick.... AND V6.
BOOM.
To be honest I'd rather have an Accord of similar vintage, except for the goofy brake/hub setup. Only because they made a wagon. And someone at work has a VERY CLEAN rust free one. But its auto. Boo.

I had a 94 Altima two cars ago. With a stick and less rust(I'm not asking for much, just most of the front subframe and trunk this time) I'd do it again.

I had an '05 Altima with an auto. Worst car ownership experience of my life. The car was given to me, and I hated every second of every minute of owning it.
Kind of turned me away from Altimas...

are my secret (albeit not so much now...) obsession! I would *LOVE* to have one of these little white hamster devils of awesome. Especially if I could just put an LS series engine in the back, and maybe... a radiator where the usual I-3 goes.

LS is a bit of a stretch — and it would ruin the practicality. Hayabusa motor? ;)

Mine was my second car, purchased by my parents with the money from the sale of my(theirs, technically) Bronco. I loved the Bronco but I couldn't afford the gas anymore. We got the Alt through my uncle, he was selling it to us for a friend of his and he assured us it was in great condition. It wasn't, but I didn't know nearly enough about cars then to realize how much of a piece of shit it was. It needed a considerable amount of work while I owned it, easily doubling the $1500 paid for it, a tab picked up by my parents thankfully. It had many issues while I owned it, but the car itself was very nice for a midsizer circa 1994. The last straw was when I took it into my mom's dealership for an oil change and the tech said the front subfram was rotted to shit and everything was held in by 1 motor mount and 1 tranny mount. The trunk was also rotted through and I was having fuel delivery issues and gas smells (likely from the filler neck just flopping all over the damn place). I spent many nights cruising with one of my friends smoking in that thing though, so at least I had good times in it.

Just think, you could be rolling on a cloud of smoke, ALL the time, like a flying nimbus! I guess a 'Busa engine would slay tires just as well though!

14. 95 model. Sadly, it is an auto. But stock and unmodified, although I do have a CAI ready to put on.

there she is. There is some minor door and fender damage on the other side, but I have the replacement fender, the door should be salvageable.

Damn, too bad it's an auto :( Hard to find 240sx's that haven't been drifted / riced / etc.

Indeed it is, which is why I snapped this one up, auto or not. My master plan is to lightly mod it and sell it to a fanboy for triple what I paid. And/or hoon it directly into a tree.
